What is HPD Online?
HPD Online (hpdonline.nyc.gov) is NYC Housing Preservation & Development's public database of complaints, violations, and registration records for a specific building address.
A building has open violations — should I walk away?
Not necessarily. Open violations are common in NYC housing stock. What matters more is the pattern: how many, how serious (a Class C violation is hazardous), and whether they're being addressed. A history of unresolved Class C violations or active litigation is a stronger warning sign.
