AptHunt

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AptHunt.org?

A navigation, comparison, and research dashboard for renting in New York City. We don't list apartment inventory ourselves — we organize the fragmented NYC rental ecosystem (marketplaces, community groups, neighborhood data, market stats, tenant rights, and renter tools) into one place.

Is this a listings site like StreetEasy or Zillow?

No. We link out to marketplaces, community groups, and other listing sources rather than hosting our own inventory. Think of us as the map, not the territory.

Is AptHunt affiliated with any broker, landlord, or marketplace?

No. We aren't affiliated with any listing site, brokerage, or property manager. If we ever use affiliate links, they'll be clearly disclosed on the specific listing.

How do I know the information here is accurate and current?

Every factual data point — market stats, neighborhood metrics, tenant-rights summaries — shows its source and the date it was last verified. If a metric hasn't been sourced, we show "Data unavailable" rather than a guess.

Are the community groups and listings verified?

Community sources (Facebook groups, listservs, subreddits, etc.) are curated but not independently verified in real time. Always confirm the apartment, the landlord or an authorized agent, and the lease terms before sending any money — see our scam-awareness guidance in Find > Community.

Do you cover areas outside NYC, like New Jersey?

Yes — select New Jersey towns are included as full neighborhoods (Explore, Compare, Community), and we have a dedicated NYC-vs-NJ comparison tool for commuters weighing both sides of the river.

Is AptHunt free to use?

Yes, the dashboard is free to browse.
